This book tells the story of the island of Kerrera, whose unassuming scope reflects a perfect image of life in the Highlands and Islands. Written by Miss Hope MacDougall of MacDougall and first published in 1979.

Kerrera - Mirror of History

  • The island of Kerrera has belonged to the MacDougall family since the thirteenth century. Miss Hope MacDougall has had recourse to family papers to describe the changing times.

The story of Kerrera is inextricably linked with that of neighbouring communities.  It was on the main route for funeral parties going to Iona, and for cattle drovers coming from Mull.  Its physical presence provides good protection, and in its shelter has arisen the modern thriving port of Oban.
