A 27 page book following the history of Dunollie Castle, the stories of its inhabitants and how the significant monument has changed over time.
Telling The Castle Story
“Nothing can be more wildly beautiful than the situation of Dunollie” Sir Walter Scott, 1815.
Dunollie has been a strategic defensive site guarding the North entrance of Oban Bay. It had been the capital of Dalriada, and the ruins of the old ramparts were still in place when the new Clan MacDougall arrived here. With its commanding view of the sea from every direction, Dunollie was the perfect site for the MacDougall’s to build their castle.
The book follows the past right through to the present, demonstrating how important the conservation of Dunollie Castle is today as a valuable historic resource, and how it can be used to inspire future generations.
Telling the Castle Story was published by Dunollie Projects Ltd (now known as the Dunollie Preservation Trust).
This book is one of Dunollie’s best sellers and is a great accompaniment to the Dunollie Museum, Castle & Grounds Guidebook, providing a full comprehensive history of the seat of the Clan MacDougall.
