Conserving Our History | Castle Works

On November the 18th, stonemason Gary Simpson and his team from Heritage Consolidation Ltd arrived at Dunollie and spent two days measuring up for all the re-enforcement bars for windows, doors or pinning unstable stonework.

These will be made from phosphor bronze which has to be cut and shaped in time for work to start on-site in February.  Gary and his team are hugely experienced and also familiar with the castle, have taken this complicated process in their stride, creating templates to achieve the correct shape for each individual bar needed.

We have a fabulous professional team overseeing the programme of works. Led by Iain Angus Campbell of CP Architects supported by conservation architect Paul Barham, of Barham Glen, conservation engineer Ben Adam of David Narro, archaeologist Roddy Regan, and quantity surveyor Tommy McQuade of Morham and Brotchie.

This team has been working hard over the last few months to complete surveys, scheme drawings, work programme, consents, health and safety requirements and costs.

We have worked with funders and supporters to secure the funds needed to get started and we had our first site meeting with the whole team on 20th November to make sure that everything is in place for the stone masons starting on site in February.
