Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds Entrance Ticket | 2 pm

Discover the fascinating history of the Clan MacDougall and see some of special items from Dunollie's stunning ancient textiles collection. Explore our enchanting Woodland Grounds, walk up to the Castle Ruins and discover breath taking views on Kerrera and the Isles beyond.

Please arrive during your designated timeslot: 2pm-3pm. You are welcome to stay onsite until 4pm, afterwhich Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds will close.

Castle Ruins:

Be some of the first visitors to see inside the ancient castle ruin, after completion of Phase III Castle Conservation in Summer 2020.

Walk up to our 12th- 17th century Castle Ruins and stumble upon a site intricately linked to human presence for thousands of years. Discover the ancient stronghold of Clan MacDonald and a view that has been described as the “the best in Argyll”.

1745 House Museum:

Discover the fascinating history of the MacDougall Clan and their servants throughout exhibitions in the 1745 House Museum, with new additions to the displays for 2021.

*Last Chance To See: 'Women of Dunollie Exhibition": Follow the fascinating women of Dunollie through the eras, from 1820 - 2020.  See stories of the Clan MacDougall from another perspective, and view some rare items from our ancient textile collections, including the beautiful bettlewing dress.

The Women of Dunollie has been created from stories featured in the popular book "Highland Postbag" written by Jean MacDougall. If you would like to pre-order a copy to collect on your visit, click here.

*This exhibition will only be available to view in person until October 2021, as the ancient textile garments need to be rested.

Guided Tour:

One of our popular guided tours will take place at 2.30pm. As spaces are limited to 15 people per tour, these will be determined on a first come, first served basis The tour take place primarily outdoors and does not go inside the 1745 House Museum.

Please wash your hands regularly. Hand sanitising stations are available at several points throughout the site should you wish to use them.

Please follow the one-way system indicated by arrows whilst onsite and follow the 1m social distancing guidelines. If you have any questions members of staff will be happy to help.

Facemasks are now mandatory in museums in Scotland for everyone above the age of 5. We ask that you wear one unless you are exempt in all indoor areas during you visit. Most of our site remains outdoors where you may choose what you are most comfortable with.

We have facemasks available onsite at no extra cost. Please ask a member of site should you require one.

We are limiting access to our 1745 House Museum to 10 visitors at a time. This is for your own safety and enjoyment as the rooms and corridors are quite narrow. It means you may need to be a little bit patient if it is already full. Please bear with us in this difficult phase.

Accessibility:

The path up to the castle is steep, particularly on the descent. This activity requires a reasonable amount of fitness and may not be suitable for those who experience mobility issues.

The museum is situated over two storeys with the brand-new Women of Dunollie exhibition on the 1st floor. Where the ground floor is wheelchair accessible, unfortunately the 1st floor is not. If you would like to use our disabled access parking spaces, please give us a call.

The interpretation in the museum is in English, with some additional Gaelic.

Dogs:

Dogs are welcome on the Grounds and by the Castle Ruins but should be kept on a lead at all times. We ask that you keep them out of the 1745 House Museum.
